Ad Copy That Sells—Even If You’re Not a Writer

You don’t need to be a copywriter to write ad copy that converts. You just need to understand what your audience cares about, what stops their scroll, and what gets them to act.
At Next Best Action Marketing, we write and test ads across platforms every week. And the highest-performing ones don’t sound like ads. They sound like real people solving real problems.
Here’s our framework for writing ad copy that sells—even if you don’t consider yourself a writer.
1. Start with the Problem (Not the Product)
Instead of listing features, speak to the pain point your audience already feels.
"Still guessing why your leads aren't converting?"
"Spending more on ads, but seeing less return?"
This hooks attention with relevance, not hype.
2. Speak Like a Human, Not a Headline
Drop the buzzwords. Write how you talk.
"Here’s what we fixed before running a single ad."
"You don’t need another funnel. You need one that works."
If it sounds too polished, it’s probably too forgettable.
3. Use Social Proof and Specifics
Show results in plain language:
“We doubled sign-ups in 30 days using one email tweak.”
“Sarah cut her lead cost in half after fixing her landing page copy.”
If you don’t have client stats yet, use your own transformation story—just keep it outcome-focused.
4. Add One Clear CTA (and Only One)
Don’t ask your reader to "click, download, read, and follow." Give them one job:
Book a call
Download the guide
Get the audit
We end 100% of our ad copy with one CTA—and we test the wording constantly.
5. Format for the Scroll
People skim. Your copy should:
Use short sentences
Add line breaks for flow
Highlight key lines with CAPS, emojis, or dashes
The goal? Make it readable before it gets clicked.
Bonus: Use Our Hook Formula
We use this formula at NBA for high-performing ad intros: [Pain Point] + [Frustration or Common Belief] + [What You Know They Want]
Example: "Your ad budget isn’t broken. Your funnel might be. Fix it and start seeing ROI without spending more."
